Dr. James Himmelberg
Hi there! Around the clinic, I am known as “Dr. Jim” I graduated from Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1986 and have lived in Lincoln since 1993. After several years of work and planning, my clinic opened in June, 2009. My wife and I have two grown sons and my wife works as a Speech Language Pathologist. Charlie, a 105lb Golden Retriever, and Heaton, a Golden Retriever mix, as well as two cats, Smokey and Socks, complete my “Noah’s Ark” at home. In my rare spare time, I enjoy woodworking and an ongoing restoration of a 1966 Chevy from the Lambrecht auction. From dogs to cats to cars, it is part of my DNA to take something broken and make it better!
Dr. Kylie Wiedel
Hi, I’m Dr. Wiedel! I am a class of 2012 graduate from Iowa State University and an associate veterinarian at VHVH. I’ve been working as a small animal veterinarian since graduation and have been employed in the field for 13 years. My career interests include internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, ophthalmology, and dermatology. I am a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association, and Nebraska Academy of Veterinary Medicine. I enjoy spending time with my husband, John, and our two dogs, Buddy and Macy, as well as our cat, Bo. In my free time, I like to cycle, garden, and cook.
Dr. Lucas Champoux
Hello, I’m Dr. Champoux, but you can call me Dr. Luke since that’s easier! I was born and raised here in Lincoln, where I also earned my Bachelor’s degree at UNL. In 2020, I graduated from Iowa State University with my DVM and began working at VHVH. Previously, I have spent time shadowing and working in various clinics in the Lincoln area. My career interests include cardiology, dermatology, surgery, and client education. In my free time, I enjoy watching sports (go Huskers, Cyclones, and Chicago Bears!) and spending time with my fiancée, Kara. My cat, Miura, lives with me and my Golden Retriever, Gordon, lives at home with my mom. I am excited to join the VHVH team and show their loyal client base what I have to offer!
Hi there, I’m Candace! I have a wonderful husband, Adam who supports my love for animals. Our kids, Isaiah, Jovi and Adia have adapted wonderfully to our love for animals as well. Our rescued fur-kids are Sully, a pointer mix and Starfox a long-haired chihuahua mix. You may spot them roaming the clinic! I worked with Dr. Jim years prior to him opening Vintage Heights and always admired his passion and knowledge in animal care. Five years ago, I joined his team at Vintage Heights to continue my journey. I love working alongside our three wonderful veterinarians and I am so incredibly proud of our team. We provide excellent animal care from medicine, education, grooming, training, and so much more. I intend to ensure that our passion remains fluent as we continue to grow and that every patient receives the best care we can provide.
LVT, Head Technician
Hi, I’m Tonya! I’ve been a licensed technician for 10 years. Wow, where did the time go? I have learned so much over that time. I started my career working nights at Veterinary Emergency Services. I loved everything about it, except the 3rd shift hours. I made the transition to a day practice over 5 years ago. I love it. I feel that working both emergency and day practice medicine has made me a stronger technician each and every day.
HDIC (Head Dog in Charge)
Hello everyone! I’m Rio. This is an old photo, I’ve grown much more since it was taken. I belong to Dr. Jim, although some may say he belongs to me! Some of my favorite hobbies include chewing on things that I should not be chewing on. “Should not” is arguable. I love anything edible, really anything. I suppose it doesn’t necessarily need to be edible either. I’ll still eat it! I love to play so I really appreciate all of the owners that bring their pets in to play with me—I mean all of us. If you haven’t yet, I can’t wait to meet “your” master.
Client Care Manager
Hi, I’m Meghan! I grew up on a farm outside of Lincoln, and as such I have spent most of my life learning how to handle, care for, and raise animals of all types, sizes and ages. (Though of course babies of any variety are the most fun!) . I’ve been working in various areas of veterinary practices since 2010. My work has enabled me to really develop my passion for animal care. I’m currently attending classes to further my goals in this field which I LOVE! I’m proud to say that I’ve been a member of the Vintage Heights family since April 2016. I am always glad to recommend this practice to my friends and family. I feel very lucky to work with so many people who genuinely love the work they do, day in and day out. This hospital is like a family that just keeps growing! To anyone in search of a new doctor for their friends, welcome!

Hi, I’m Erika! I became a certified dog trainer in 2016 during my 9 year career at Petco. During this time, I found a true passion for all types of animals. I really enjoy helping with the exotics such as birds and reptiles as well as small animals too. You may see me on trail walks or coordinating our doggy daycare sessions. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and three kids. Together, we enjoy fishing and camping in the summer. During the cold months, listening to music or simply reading a good book will do!

I’ve been in the medical field since 2016 but worked in Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo for 2 summers and on a kennel staff for over a year and a half. I am an avid college football fan and always enjoy the marching bands, since I played in the UNL marching band while earning my Biology degree. I love putting my experiences into practice everyday to help take care of everyone’s furry “children”.
Hi, I’m Jennifer! I am a Northwestern Wisconsin native and I graduated in 2012 with a degree in Veterinary Technology. I made the move to Nebraska in 2013 on a whim to pursue a new life and new job opportunities. I grew up with many animals in my life from cats and dogs to farm animals, wildlife and pocket pets! I suppose it isn’t I surprise I ended up in a career working with animals. In my free time, I enjoy outdoor activities such as kayaking, walking, getting lost in the forest, and exploring. I really enjoy anime/manga, reading and drawing. Currently I share my life with my belgian malinois, Akira, my shiba inu, Gary and my three cats, Keegan, Kogami, and Yuuko.
My name is Haley and I’m a Licensed Veterinary Technician. I spent my entire life on the Gulf Coast of Florida and Alabama, before my husband and I moved our family to Lincoln in January 2020. I graduated from Coastal Alabama Community College in 2017 with a degree in Veterinary Technology, and over the years have found myself increasingly passionate about client education. I love to help pet owners feel comfortable and informed about their pets’ health. In my free time, I love to spend time with my family. We enjoy getting outdoors and are extremely involved in our church community. Our family also includes three dogs: Happy (a boxer/sharpei mix), Honey (a yellow lab), and Bryant (a 45lb mystery mutt). Our home and hearts are full of love and covered in fur!
Kennel Technician / Veterinary Assistant
Hi, I’m Cassie! I have always had a passion for helping animals. I am currently an undergrad at UNL working towards a degree in Conservation Biology and Pre-Vet. Once I finish, I hope to start Vet school. Vintage Heights has given me the opportunity to pursue my interest in helping animals that I am incredibly grateful for!

Assistant / Client Care
Hello everyone! My name is Melissa or I am otherwise known as “Frank” (my nickname since childhood). And yes, feel free to call me either! If you visit Vintage Heights often, you might know my lovable golden retriever, Haven. Haven loves coming to work with me and meeting new people. I also have a border collie named Dixon and a cat named Bacardi.
I have been working at Vintage Heights since August of 2017. Prior to joining the staff here, I attended UNL and majored in Veterinary Science and I am currently in vet school. I love working at Vintage Heights because it has helped to prepare me for my future as a DVM.
Hi, I’m Mindy! I’ve been a part of the Vintage Heights Veterinary Hospital team since 2015. I love coming to work with my dog, Zalina and working with people as well as animals. My past experiences and knowledge comes from the Lincoln Children’s Zoo Crew program for 3 seasons, and 10 years with the Cornhusker Pony Club. I volunteer with Northern Plains Boxer Rescue, working with dogs to help them overcome behavioral problems and seek out their forever families. I also enjoy expanding my knowledge with all the education I’m receiving here at Vintage Heights about pet care and animal health. One of my favorite responsibilities that I love here, is tending to boarding pets while their owners are out of town. This gives me one-on-one time with our client’s furry family members, so they feel more comfortable while here for their stay.
Hi, my name is Hailey and I’m a student at Iowa Western College in the Vet Tech program. I’ve known since I was a little girl that I wanted to work with animals, so this is a dream! I am hoping after I complete my undergraduate to go on to vet school. I am a lover of all animals. I have a seven year old golden retriever named Macy and a three year old border collie named Charlie who I am absolutely crazy about. They are the most amazing companions. I have been walking dogs at the humane society since I was sixteen and have a huge spot in my heart for rescue animals. I think there is no greater joy than seeing a rescue animal get a second chance.
Hi, I’m Kaley! I’ve lived near Lincoln my whole life and I’ve been crazy about animals for as long as I can remember! I moved to the country when I was two years old, and since then, I’ve wanted to work with livestock animals. I currently have an 8 year old cat named Blackie, and a 5 year old horse named Vegas. My 6 year old golden retriever, Kasey, comes and hangs out with me at work sometimes. I hope to get more critters once I graduate college. I’m going to UNL for Animal Science and hope to work with animals of all sizes in the future. When I’m not working or in school, you can find me taking the dog for a walk around Holmes Lake or in the saddle out on a back road! I love being outdoors with my pets and I can’t wait to have a future in animal care.
